Hello,

Try using Windows Live Mail Desktop Beta as your email application, see if
that helps fix your issue at all.

Any error messages?

If so, post the complete message.

i'm not sure what you are telling me....remember i'm a granny with new
computer and vista....

smtp server not responding.....it was set for 1 minute and i just changed it
to 5..don't think that will help though

Try and post the entire error message as per verbatim. Can be any number of causes. We can only try to help you if we can see your error message in it's entirety

Delete the message in the Outbox, then reboot the computer and try sending
again.

If it fails again, open the Outbox.
Right click on "Subject" and select "Columns"
Check the box foe "Size" and then press OK.

If you don't see the "Size" column, maximize Windows Mail.

What is the file size of the message?

It could be that it's too large for your mail's server, each ISP varies on
how large a message they will let me sent.

You might also try saving the attachment, then create a new message, attach
it to the new message and send.

do you think i not giving it enough time....i am used to oe and it takes
seconds...was reading in other post about how slow wm is...the time frame was
set up for 1 minute and after that i kept telling to to wait but now have
changed that to 5 minutes

Make sure that your anti-virus program is not configured
to check outgoing messages.

Well, if the connection is the same it shouldn't take any longer.

BTW: I live in the town where they make the Vettes....

1. Go to the Vista start menu and type cmd
2. The search results will display a program titled cmd
3. Right-click on the link and select "Run as administrator"
4. type "netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=disabled" without
the quotation marks
5. Test your POP account and see if you can now download your mail.
6. If nothing changes, re-enable the autotuning feature by typing
"netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=normal"

Also, this is often caused by an anti-spam program or an anti-virus set to
scan email.
Turn off email scanning in your anti-virus. It provides no added
protection. After doing so it may be necessary to reset the server names in
OE.

Email scanning slows down Sending and Receiving, sometimes enough that OE
times out. Since some of the received messages have large (often virus)
attachments, which exasperates the problem.
Some Comcast users have found it necessary to totally uninstall Norton and
switch to the free AVG with mail scanning off. Norton invented email
scanning and here's what they say:

"Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses
that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions."
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...6d4e006aaa94/4ba5fc8ef939c44c88256c7500723cf0

"...your computer is protected if Auto-Protect is enabled. Auto-Protect
scans any incoming files, including email attachments, when the files are
saved to your hard drive."
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2001100907323806

"NAV provides multiple layers of protection. Email scanning is just one of
those layers. Even if you are not running Email Scanning, your computer is
protected against viruses that are distributed as email attachments by NAV
Auto-Protect. Auto-Protect will scan any incoming files, including email
attachments, as they are saved to your hard drive. To make sure that
Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep Auto-Protect enabled
and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have the most recent virus
definitions."

So Symantec used to say this often and clearly. The newer stuff doesn't
have the statement included as it was considered an embarrassment. If you
know anyone who programs for Norton try to get them to talk about it.

Hi Vette-Granny:
When the Windows Mais program thkes too long to send and receive:

This solution was given to me by Steve Cochran (MVP):

1. Go to the Vista Start menu and in Start Search at bottom type cmd
2. The search results will display a program titled cmd
3. Right-click on the cmd link and select "Run as administrator"
4. In the black screen, at the end of C:\Windows\system32> type "netsh
interface tcp set global autotuning=disabled" without the quotations marks
and click Enter
5. Go to your Windows Mail and test your POP account and see if you can now
download your mail.
6. If nothing changes, reenable the autotuning feature by typing
"netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=normal" without the quotation
marks and click Enter
Please let me know if it worked.

I just quoted it. Someone named Martin posted that it worked for him and
I've been quoting it since.

I perferred the Stingrays. Don't own one, more of a Mustang fan. Can nearly
buy two 'Stangs for the price on one Vette. Same thrill. Fast is fast.
