I work in Excel 2002. As of today, my simple formulas have stop working.
ie, =D1-C1. I have to hit F9 every time I want the formula to calculate. I
don't know if I turned something off or what.

Thanks in advance of any help

Tools>Options>Calculation. Set to "Automatic".

If you're wondering how it got switched to "manual"......

Excel takes the Calculation mode each session from the settings on the first
workbook opened in that session.

i.e. If you saved Book1 with calc mode in manual and opened it first, calc
mode would be in Manual.

If you saved Book2 with calc mode in auto and opened it after Book1, Book2
would be in manual mode(Excel ignores the auto calc mode in this case).

If you close Book1 before opening Book2, Book2 will be in auto calc mode.

Confusing enough? <g>

Info for you and others........

Many people use Personal.xls or similarly-named workbook for storing global
macros.

This workbook is stored in the XLSTART folder and opens "hidden" when Excel is
started.

The Calculation settings could be set at "manual" which would set the mode for
any subsequent workbooks opening.

Common cause of the "it changed to manual" phenomenon.

Hey i'm in college and i'm trying to get Excel to do the Cumulative
GPA (not including classes i'm currently enrolled in), a semester GPA,
and a Combined GPA. the first two work but the third does not.

when i type in the formula =sum(d2/d1) works, when i type in the
formula =sum(h8:h11+d8:d24)/sum(f8:f11+b8:b24) it does not.

cumulative gpa
=sum(d8:d24)/(b8:b24) this should be 2.36 something
(i had a rough first year).

semester gpa
=sum(h8:h11)/(f8:f11) this should be about 3.0

Combined GPA
=sum(h8:h11+d8:d24)/sum(f8:f11+b8:b24)
when this works, it gives me a number
like 141. it should give me a number like 2.50 or 2.67.

by the way, my email isn't the TRUE email, and it doesn't work. i'll
search the posts, thank you!

Tools , Options, Calculation (tab), Calculation Automatic

You want do this from the first workbook that gets opened,
for most people that would be their personal.xls workbook,
so you would have only that workbook open and unhidden,
make the change, cave the workbook and hide it again.
