If *all* your formulas appear as text within the cells, there's a switch
that's set the wrong way.
Try:
<Tools> <Options> <View> tab,
And make sure that under "WindowsOptions", Formulas is *unchecked*.
OR ... to toggle back and forth between options,
<Ctrl> <~>
On the other hand, if *some* formulas appear as text within the cell, then
that's your problem ... the cells were formatted as text *before* you
entered the formulas.
Simply reformatting the cells to numbers *after* the formulas were entered
will *not* work !
There are several ways to go, depending on the number of *bad* formulas
involved.
First, format the cells to Number or General.
Then, if there are only a few, simply select the cell, and then click in the
formula bar and then <Enter>.
If there are quite a few more, try this:
Hold <Ctrl> and select all the cells concerned,
Then, while all are still selected,
<Ctrl> <Shift> <~>, once
Then,
F2 <Enter>
for each one of the selected cells.

Excel suddenly refuses to recognize formulas. It just
treats the cell as containing the text of the formula.
Once this morning it got it right; there was no
difference in the way the formula was input- just
randomly got it as a formula once in five tries. The
problem persists with the function wizard. Any
suggestions would be appreciated. Didn't happen before
today.
