Forms take too long to open

The problem is that it can take up to 2 minutes to open
my main client form (split database with data on network
drive). This is because it loads all the data for all my
clients when it opens, thus the more clients entered the
slower the response.

What I would like to do is to open the form in data entry
mode for quick opening but then to be able to access
other records through selecting with a combo box on the
form - however if set to data entry mode it cannot access
those records. I use DAO behind the scenes extensively
and if somebody could give me some pointers it would be
appreciated. I'm using Access 2002.

If anybody has any advice as how to set it up differently
than above please let me know.

Cheers

Brett

Brett,

The number of clients should not be a problem even in the area of thousands,
if you take the appropriate measures in the interest of improving overall
performance. Take a look at the following link in Tony Toews' site:

http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/performancefaq.htm

It has worked wonders for me and many others.

HTH,

Just implemented the top three suggestions at the
website. Now, instead of taking 2-3 minutes to load, it
takes around 5 seconds. Thanks for the suggestion to try
the site and to Tony Toew.
