Forms open MUCH more slowly in ACC2002

I have a front-end/back-end database that I have
developped in Access 2000 and use on a network with mixed
Access 2000 and 2002 on the client machines. It operates
at an acceptable speed on the oldest machine (a 400-600Mhz
P3 with Win 98; opens the largest form in 4 seconds), but
the same form takes 10-12 seconds on the brand new 2.4Ghz
P4 with WinXP Pro and Access 2002. The back-end is being
served by Win NT on a 100-400Mhz machine, but the forms
open just as slowly when I put the BE and FE on the same
machine!

Any ideas why this might be?

I am using standard Access queries (i.e. Jet, not SQL).

Thanks very much!

Mark,

It's very subjective. The fastest machine I ever had running Access is a P4
2.4 GHz, the slowest a 386 SX16. It really depends upon a number of factors,
not the least of which is what else is running on both the server and the
workstations. Try this:

Make a copy of the back-end and convert it to Access 2002. Is it as slow on
the Access 2002 front-ends? How about converting a 2002 front-end back to
2000 and connecting it to the 2000 back-end? Any improvement?

Thanks, Dirk!

I had Name Autocorrect on for all systems, and assumed
that it would be just as slow/fast everywhere, but that
does not seem to be the case. I have taken it off, and now
the forms open lickety-split.
Great!

At the same time, my front-end has shrunk in size from
18Mb to 8Mb...maybe this is in part due to recompiling
with /decompile, which I did two days ago, following a
suggestion from Tony Toews, but...

Interesting. It may be the decompile/recompile/compact, but the removal
of name-tracking information may have something to do with it also. I
don't know, I've never checked.

I assumed you had that off already. Bad assumption. One other thing to turn
off is the subdatasheets in tables, which greatly slows down loading.
