I had an issue that seems to have been put right on the server this morning.
But no one ever tells you!

I still cannot contact my hosts so hope I can sort this out myself.

Unfortunatly on submitting a form visitors are now asked for a password

I have used FrontPage forms for years and this has never happened.

I feel this cannot be too difficult to sort out can anyone help please.

Sounds like a permissions issue with the _private folder.

It needs to have "server write" permissions set on it.

Depends upon the type of server your site is on, and if you have
authority to change permissions..

If your site is on an Apache/UNIX with the web masters CPanel you can do
it through the CPanel file manager.

On a windows based server you can do it via FrontPage, "if" your hosting
company allows it.

Should really be set via the FP extensions on the server, by running a server health check...

Thanks

I have a control panel. Not sure how to do this or what to set it to.
How would I find out.

Is the control panel named CPanel??

If so, open CPanel, click File manager.
Double click the public_html folder.
Click once on the _private folder then in the upper right side of the
page click Change permissions

Set the settings to 755

I am not technical, all has worked well up until the last few days, my hosts
sorted out one problem this morning, since then no one can use the forms, and
I cannot contact them. This is most frustrating.
Would I need my hosts to do this or could I.
Or would it be best to put the forms on other than using FrontPage.
Thank you for your help

Then open the "root" folder for your web and then click the _private folder

So on a Unix/Linux server you don't have the ability to run a server health check if using the
FP2002 extensions or check extensions if running FP2000 extensions?

check extensions is the first thing I did.

In fact when everything is o.k I can go months without having to contact the
support, but as soon as they change servers or do something on my site it all
goes wrong. First I want to get the site working, I have lots of visitors and
do not want to let them down. I have only stayed with these hosts as I use
1-2 gbs bandwidth a day. I find in the past hosts that say unlimited
bandwidth, just switch you off, I also need people who know about server
extentions. I have spent the past 3 days trying to contact these so I also
need help when required, which is about once every 6 months. I have taken
alook around today, many of the english give a few giga a month and then
charge extra I have been caught before.

I am a small concern, just earning a wage, but have spent more time in the
past year trying to sort my web site out because the extensions went wrong or
someone in thier office changed the settings.
So if you know of a good host please tell me.
Thank you for helping

Update
Just took a look at my site, I am now asked for a password before I can see
it. And so would everyone else!

Lets hope he is working on it, before I have a heart attack.

So i do not need passwords taken off of the forms as no one gets that far.
