I have a couple of Access 2000 databases that reside on a
network drive and are used by all of my co-workers. the
one is almost 3 years old and has never had a problem, the
other I just built last december. in the last for weeks I
have had a problem with these databases losing there
forms. Occasionaly, without any kind of warning, someone
will open it and find that all the forms are gone. I
thought someone may have been screwing around with them so
I created MDE files for both databases and one of the MDE
files did the same thing this last friday. does anyone
have an idea what could be causing this?

I can't help you with this but I can share a similar
experience.

I constructed a db for an ambulance service provider that
books transport jobs. Built in Access 2000 and worked for
months with no problems.

Then one day...in the morning I got this phone call from
the firm...and...I didn't like what they were discribing
to me over the phone. Saying things like "cannot find
entry form" etc. I realised something was very seriously
wrong and had to get there to fix it. When I go
there...I...I...couldn't
find...those...umm...those...err...you know them forms!!
Every one of them disappearred! Gulp!!

I then queried the user, and he said that he was half-way
through a hospital booking, and suddenly the power went
off and then on, causing the system to restart. When he
went to reopen the db, he was stuck. Now, for me to
explain any further than this is purely guessing, because
I just don't know how a power failure or any reason would
cause it.

Luckily though, we had backups, and I didn't have to
rebuild them.

Good luck in finding the cause.

Cheers

But why just the forms?

Sorry, I have absolutely no idea at all. Some others are
writing in about similar experiences too.

If you think about it, the way these Window programs work,
the file is copied and put into RAM. So, if the power
supply were disconnected, then what would be lost would be
the copy in RAM, and the original would still be
intact...with no record of the changes made to the RAM
copy.
