I am using outlook 2003 XP Pro
I am happy with the standard default setup of Outlook.

I wanted to add one more field to the main contacts view.
i.e. Products

So that we can add what products the customer has bought from us in the past
and we can use that field for mailmerge.

can anyone help me out on that. I am new to forms and don't know how to use
it, hence don't want to take a wrong step just in case I mess things up.

Appreciate your help and a prompt response.

When you are viewing your contacts, you can right click on either of the
fields already showing (i.e. full name, company, home phone, etc.), and
choose "Field Chooser" from the menu. Here you will see a list of all
available fields. On the bottom of that window should be a "New" button.
Click that button, then you will be prompted to type in the new field Name,
Type, and Format. Since you will be putting products in, the Type will be
Text.
(P.S. If you are viewing your contacts as Address Cards or Detailed Address
Cards, you will not be able to see the fields. Choose Phone List or By...")
(And for future references, incase you are interested, the "Text" type can
be used for letters AND numbers...numbers used would be year for example....
the "Number" type is used for numbers that will be used for any type of math.)
Hope this helps!

In addition to my first reply, I forgot to mention that once you create the
new field, you must click and drag it up to where you see the other fields.
You can drag it to wherever you want.

The first wrong step you are about to take is to put that new field on the
main page of the contacts form. If you do that, some of the existing controls
on that page will stop functioning correctly, like the formatting of phone
numbers and email addressing.
