Hi All

I am hoping you can help me here as I am starting to go
nuts. I am in the middle of a large document and suddenly
formatting tabs appeared. I cant remember If I
accidentally activated them by hitting a key combination
but nevertheless they are here.

What I need to know is how to turn them off. Every
document I open now has these tabs. They look like
formatting tabs in HTML editors. Every word has a dot
between them etc.

Can someone put me out of my misery and tell me how to
deactivate this in Word. I have even tried uninstalling
and reinstalling word but to no avail.

Many thanks.

First of all, you have to know how to use styles. If you know, then select whatever style you don't want any tabs on, click 'modify', then click 'format', go to tabs, and you'll see all these decimal numbers--those are the tabs. Click 'clear all', then 'ok', 'ok', then click 'apply'. And the're gone.
