Hey Guys
I recently stuck a load of old PC parts together to build a old P2 350mhz
system which will be perfect for hosting LAN game servers and holding files
as its passively cooled and can run quietly.
I got given a small 3.5gb hard disk for it but it came with a copy of
mandrake Linux installed on it. I want to install Windows on it but cant
seem to format the hard disk. Every copy I try (98, 2000 and XP) all tell me
they had an error formatting the disk.
I thought id try to install Linux on it to see what happened at it installed
fine.

Not knowing anything about Linux I don't know if its a problem with that (I
may be posting in completely the wrong place) or if its to do with windows.
Any one have any ideas?

Cheers
Dave

Linux is a variation of Unix. Do a Google for Linux. If
you have the time to learn how to use it, it will run as a
server for your games just fine. But it has nothing to do
with Windows.

Hey
Is it possible to formatt a drive with a unix system so i can install
windows on it?
To be honest im not interested in running linux on this pc as i have a linux
based pc elsewhere.
The problem is getting the drive formatted for windows.
Dave

3.5 GB is very small for an XP install. But you can boot
any Windows CD (98. ME, XP) and run the install program on
XP or FDISK on ME/98) and once you have the disk prepped you
can install your OS of choice.

Hello
Get a 3 1/2 floppy go to this website and create a bootdisk for 98, then
boot the computer with the floppy in and then you will start the computer
without CD-Rom support, then Y or N either one to enable large disk support
then type FDISK at the A: prompt then you can delete the partitions and
create new ones, then exit FDISK restart puter and do the same as before
except at the A: prompt type FORMAT C: and hit enter.
