i was told i need to format my C and D drive to stop my
computer freezing up and slowing all the time. Trouble is
everytime i try i keep getting a prompt saying quit any
disk utilities or other programs using this drive, and
make sure that no window is displaying the comtents of
this drive. I've done all this and it still doesn't work.
Windows doesn't count as a program using the disk does
it?

"Windows doesn't count as a program using the disk does it?"

It sure does!

Do you understand that when you format a hard drive everything on the drive
is permanently wiped out? If you do, and are prepared to deal with this,
then boot your computer from the XP CD and follow the prompts for a clean
installation of Windows XP.

hmm there doesnt seem to be prompts for a clean
installation. Just a repair option and a part which goes
on about partitions and a operating system already
existing on the partition. Which im guesing is the
existing version of xp i have. Helllp?
