Hi, Al.

What make and model is your computer - or your motherboard, if you built it
yourself? Did WinXP come pre-installed on it? And what kind of CD did you
get with WinXP?

Why won't your computer boot from the WinXP CD? It seems to me this is the
threshold issue you need to solve first. If we know the answers to the
questions I asked above, someone here should recognize your system and be
able to offer some specific advice.

Hi, Al.

OK. That information eliminates a LOT of wild-goose possibilities. ;^}

Now, to Question #1: WHY won't it boot from the WinXP CD-ROM?

Tell us what you do and what you see, step by step, from the time you set
your BIOS to boot from CD, insert the WinXP CD-ROM, and reboot. Do you hear
the POST beep? Do you see the opening screen? Does it show both your
primary master HD and your CD-ROM as recognized? And so on ... until you
get to the point where it hangs or halts with an error message or otherwise
lets you know that it's not going to work.

The retail WinXP CD is bootable. You should not need a different boot disk
of any kind - unless your CD drive is defective or incorrectly connected and
enabled.

I wish we could be there to watch over you shoulder. Since we cannot,
you'll have to tell us everything that we would like to be able to see for
ourselves.
