Formatting numbers as a percent without the % sign

I'm trying to format a number like .0235 as 2.35. If I use %, thenthe result
is 2.35%. I just do not want to % sign. Does anyone know if that is
possible to do through formatting? Multiplying by a 100 is not an option in
this case.

Two steps in XL2003:
1) Select the range you intend to use as your percentage range
2) Format. Cells, Percentage (and set the number of decimal paces).
 
But that also shows the % sign.

None that I know of.

Multiplying by a 100 is not an option in this case.

Why not?

Or why not simply enter 2.35, and where you intend to use it as percent,
enter A1% or (A1%)?

For example, the following results in 235:

=10000*A1%
 
The problem with that soultion is I want to reformat the numbers in a
pivottable. The pivottable is pivotting percentages. Therefore it returns
percentages.

How about a Custom format:

0.00"%"

Result - you enter 2.35; 2.35% appears in the cell; underlying value
remains 2.35
 
Thank you for the response. However, what I'm looking for is .00235 to be
formatted as 2.35. It would be great if I could just multiply the cell by
100 via custom formatting. Very similair to formatting the number as a
percent just without the % character. I think that I have come to the
conclusion that it can not be done.

I think your postings were quite clear on that point. I don't understand
the confusion.

And before anyone beats you up for a simple typo, you meant to write 0.0235,
not 0.00235.

I think that I have come to the conclusion that it can not be done.
