There is a "trick" for shutting off certain functions so
that when formatting a hard drive, the process will be
completed successfully. Please remind me what it is.
I have a Sony lap top with W2K Pro. Just purchased a 250
gig Maxtor external hard drive. The drive was formatted
at factory for W98, but seems to take transfer of files
okay from the lap top. I decided to play it safe and
format the Maxtor using W2K Pro, but it only goes to the
last segment of the formatting process and then stops
without successful completion. I turned off screen saver
and energy saver, but that didn't help. Do I need to turn
off more? If so, how? I need to keep the firewire
connection active because that it the connecting cable
between lap top and external hard drive.
