I need to format my hard drive so I was wondering where I
ned to go on my computer and what preparations I need to
make so I can install windows xp pro again, and so I
won't ruin my hard drive and If it helps any I have a 120
GB external hard drive but it is my 20 gb internal
harddrive that I want to format

....How could you "ruin" your hard drive if you're formatting it?
Why are you reinstalling Windows XP?
Is there anything you want to keep?

I have no idea how I could ruin it I just wanted to know
how to avoid ruining it if it could happen.
The reason I want to reformat the disk is becasue there
have been some problems with xp itself like it won't make
anymore user names and on one of the user names the
internet won't work but there are also some files that I
have tried to delete but they wont becasue it was unable
to read from the source disk and they have been there for
a while and there is some stuff I want to keep but I
already put that stuff in myexternal hard drive

Are you SURE that *all* settings, data and such you want to keep are on
the external drive?
If yes, then you should be ready to reinstall.
