The Big Mat

For reasons beyond my comprehension, WindowsXP Pro refuses to format
my floppy disks anymore.

Each time I ask him to format a 3.5 floppy disk, I have the following
message:"Windows was unable to complete the format"

Any suggestion to what I could do to overcome this annoyance?

Thank you

Gilles

P.S. Curiously, when I request WindowsXP Pro to create an MS-DOS
Startup
disk, the command is executed without any problem.

Hey, i don't know if this will work, but perchance, maybe
you have the disk on read only, there is a little switch
on the bottom of the disk that prevents altering the disk
in any way, including delteing anything off of it, saving
stuff to it, and also, formating. Also, another method
go into the msdos prompt, type A:\ (make sure you have a
floppy in the drive when you do this) when the command
line changes to A:\ type format

I have the same problem. I swap floppies and the format is
fine. I try the orginal flopy and the problem remains, so
I toss it away and go on.

All the best
