I need asistance on how to format my floppy discs. I
have tried searhing EVERYWHERE. Any assistance would be
greatly appreciated. I cannot seem to locate a DOS
promopt or anything. Thanks

Open "My Computer" , place the floppy disk in the drive. Then in My
Computer, right-click on the A:(floppy) drive icon and choose format from
the drop-down menu.

In My Computer, single click on your A: drive, then go to File |
Format.

There is no real DOS prompt in WIndows XP, but there is a Command
Prompt, which emulates DOS. You get to it by going to Start | Run
and typing CMD. You can also issue the old DOS format command
there.

Using the Command Prompt window is the best bet because it will format both
1.44MB and 720KB diskettes. The command format a: (or format a: -q
for quick format) will "see" the correct disk size and will format accordingly —
unless you have already tried to format the 720 diskette via My Computer. That
will screw up a 720 floppy in short order because it will start formatting as if
the diskette is a 1.44 until it discovers its error! :-(
