Hi, after buying a 500gb hdd to be spare storage drive im having a lot of
trouble formating it with partition magic 8 it keeps giving me error 514, can
any body tell me what this means so i can fix it.

Partition Magic belongs to Symantec, so you have to ask Symantec
technical support.

Why not use Windows to format the drive?

"How to use Disk Management
To start Disk Management:
Log on as administrator or as a member of the Administrators group.
Click Start, click Run, type compmgmt.msc, and then click OK.
In the console tree, click Disk Management. The Disk Management window
appears. Your disks and volumes appear in a graphical view and list view. To
customize how you view your disks and volumes in the upper and lower panes of
the window, point to Top or Bottom on the View menu, and then click the view
that you want to use."

Go into Disk Management, and format it from within there.

What version of XP? XP, XP SP1, XP SP2 or XP SP3? XP version XP had
a problem accessing large hard drives that greater that 128GB. XP SP1
is supposed to fix this.

If you still have problems, contact the hard drive's manufacturer.
