formatting emails and HTML or plain text????

O.K., another problem. And then I copied my resume from a
floppy and pasted it into a new OE5 email. There are
multiple lines in between each line. It's like some things
are triple spaced and some things are 6 times(I can't
think of the right word for 6, like triple spaced is for
3) spaced. OE5 will not let me deleted the extra lines to
make everything single spaced. Help!

Should resumes be done in HTML with all the cool
formatting like centering, bold etc... or should resumes
be done in plain text???
 
In HTML an Enter will create a new subparagraph and a SHIFT+Enter will
create a new rule. Resumes should be done professionally so you do the math
:-P

I'm still wondering why you are posting in this forum for these kind of
questions :-S
 
....About people posting Outlook Express questions to this newsgroup...

The people are searching and when they come across this newsgroup titled,
Outlook General they probably stop searching further and figure "General"
really means General, all Outlook...

So really it's not the users that make the mistake, but Microsoft naming two
different products with the same name. I know Outlook Express and Outlook
are different applications. One comes with Internet Explorer (Express) and
one comes with Office (Outlook). But when people search for newsgroups, and
find "Outlook General" well, do the math.

MS should re-think naming these two products with completely different
names. Then and only then, the posts will be for the correct application.

I believe informing people this is the wrong newsgroups for posting Express
questions is paddling up river. If I only had a nickel for each Outlook
Express post here, I could retire.

Check back a couple of posts of him; I informed him about that he was in the
wrong newsgroup and provided him a link-> he ignores it (can't read?)-> I
post it again-> he says "yes"-> and then he places a new off topic post.
Programs with similair names or not, his behaviour is just plain st*pid :-S
 
Excellent explanation, and aware of the differences. But still the issue is
the people will post Express questions here, thinking these are related,
because both have "Outlook", in their name. By being different wouldn't
logic dictate to have different names?

What do you think the post ratio is? I'm guessing for every 5 Outlook
questions, 3 Express questions; 5 to 3 ratio? Or a 5 to 2 ratio?

You know the old saying, If I had a nickel ... (in this case) ... for every
Express question posted here I could retire now.

Answer this and be honest. If Outlook Express was named IE Express Mail,
wouldn't that make life easier for this newsgroup seeing mostly Outlook
questions???

The point: The name "Office Outlook" and "Outlook Express" is the main
reason why (for the most part) Outlook Express questions find it's way here.
Please understand, I'm on your side, but just pointing this out.

Guess what? Buy bringing this out in this thread is a pretty healthy thing,
don't you think? I mean, anyone reading this may and hopefully help them
understand that these 2 applications are indeed different, but by fate have
similar names...

Yes, I agree on the name thing and I like the discussion. When I start with
computers I also believed that Outlook Express was a light version of of
Microsoft Office Outlook. Even more confusing is that Outlook for the MAC
isn't like Microsoft Office Outlook as it only connects to Exchange.
Microsoft Office Outlook for the MAC is Entourage.

The name thing is very confusing indeed but this also happens with MSN
Messenger and Windows Messenger. Here the names are quite different but the
programs are quite simmilar for a home user. MSN Messenger 6 is quite
different but MSN Messenger 5 and Windows Messenger 4.x was for the general
public quite the same program (especially with the Hotmail plug-in).

So now from a marketing point of view (dare I?). When you say Outlook you
immediately think about (a mail client from) Microsoft. Some will think
Outlook Express and others will think about Microsoft Office Outlook. When
you name it completely different -let's say for Microsoft Office Outlook it
will become Microsoft Office Entourage- then there is more than one name
indicating to a Microsoft mailing client on an Windows OS. Then when you say
Entourage people who have always been on Outlook Express probably won't have
a clue about what Entourage does. When you are a Outlook Express user the
threshold to be curious about Microsoft Office Outlook when its name falls
is much lower. This is of course what Microsoft wants-> people going from a
fee mail reader (peolpe, please don't start about how you are paying for it
when you buy your OS) to the paid Microsoft Office Outlook. So one helps the
other; name recognision.

To go short; the names can be confusing but this also happens when programs
are quite simmilar. That OE users come here and post their question isn't
always a bad thing as some of them have quite good ideas but they just don't
know that they have to use Microsoft Office Outlook instead for it to make
it work. But most of the people that post their OE question here are newbie
and their questions aren't that hard (like the attachment thing or where OE
stores the mail) and you can settle with a oneliner to solve it and a remark
about where they should be for the next time. I think going through a
newsgroup before you post something can be more helpfull as well; you can
see/search if it has come up lately and when you read 3 or 4 posts you can
most likely find out if you are in the right newsgroup for it.

A 5 to 3 or even to 2 ratio is still a bit high I think but about that
nickel thing; we'd be freaking rich! ;-)
