Formatting dates by year

I would like to know if there is a way to format dates so
that they are formatted by year only. For example, if I
click on Format -> Cells, there are a bunch of options,
but none of them list to show the year only, just
mm/dd/yy or mm/yy, etc. I am trying to create a chart so
that only the year shows up. Thanks.

Hi, I have tried this, but what it does is give one
specific year (ie. 1905) for all the years I have
entered. I want to just keep my values.

Any suggestions? Many thanks.

I tried this, but the years then show up as only one year
(i.e. 1905) for all the values. I want to keep my values.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

If you enter (for example) 1999 in a cell, then format the cell as YYYY,
Excel thinks that your cell (1999) is the 1999th day since Excel's
calendar started on 1/1/1900. So 1999 is 21-June-1905. The numbers 1828
to 2192 would appear as 1905 if formatted YYYY.

Either just keep using the years as whole numbers, or change the cells
so they hold actual dates, like Jan 1 1999.
