In Microsoft Vista’s >Modify Style< box there isn’t a checkbox for
automatically update<, as there was in Window’s XP. Consequently,
I’m unable to make formatting changes that affect the whole document.

Where are you seeing this in Vista? Are you sure that your not in an Office
application like Word?

You're right, Ronnie. Thanks for correcting me. Would you suggest that I
post my question on the Word Discussion group?

That makes too much sense. I'd go for the Microsoft Money group.

A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?

Ronnie,

The application (if that's the right word) I'm running is Microsoft Vista.
The software is Office Word 07. Thanks.

In Word 2007, when you move the mouse over a style in the Styles box on the
Ribbon, you should see the entire document change to that style. To make the
style permanent, simply click on that style. To see more styles, click the
Change Styles drop down menu and click Style Sets.

If this is not what you are seeing, click the Office Button and select Word
Options at the bottom of that dialog. Click Popular on the left menu and
make sure that "Enable live preview" is checked.
