I am used to 98 but have a new computer that came with Win2K on it. I would
like to format this drive so I can install ME ( family pc ). Can anyone give
me instructions.

Thanks,

Get an ME boot disk or win98 boot disk will work just as well.

http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

Start menu/ Run
Type- cmd
Type Format /?

This will give you the parameter listing and misc. help for the 'format.com'
utility.

Note: Although I have'nt ever installed ME there should be an option during
install (after you select the Drive/partition) to do a clean install (ie.
format) If this is not available boot to a DOS diskette with the format.com
on it and manually format the partition before booting from the ME CD to
install.

heres a link to get you started

ps. Stick it out with 2000, its worth it in the long run :-)
(my 2 pence)

Thanks and I agree. For my business laptop it's 2K but for the family I
think ME is easier...

that was utterly painful to read....

No! No! No!
XP is, and by far, A LOT better alternative than ME! C'mon!
I would rather install win95 first edition than ME!

XP is the logical evolution of Win2K for home users. I
have install XP on my personnal computer over a year ago
and never had any problem what so ever. Not one crash!.
I tried once to install ME on the same computer and on
first boot, FIRST, Blue screen.

Now you do what you want man but, I think, going the ME
way is an error.

Good luck!

By the way, I'm not the original poster with the question.... :0)

I was just goofing around there Pop. I would have to admit that
X-tra P-ainful is a better alternative than ME......Me personally I use
Win2K Pro & will stick to it till the day I die! If MS supports it that
long... :0)
XP is good for simplistic use, try loading some real software on it...
I have 20gig worth of software only (no saved data, no games..data is
spread out on 8 HD's) installed on my system.....tried it on XP & it
couldn't handle it.

Well we have deployed XP where I work on over 6000
computers so far with apps going from Office XP, Oracle,
Remedy, SAP, Mcafee ePO, Visio, Project, IGrafX, VPN, etc,
etc, etc... with no real increase in trouble ticket. I
don't know what you mean by "real software" but beleive me
we probably have install it! In fact things are going real
well and I think that by the end of 2003 all of the
remaining 20 000 workstations will have been migrated to
XP.

Take care man,

PoP!

P.S. I still run 2K on my laptop... Don't say anything!

No prob, I won't tell.... :0)

Boy o' boy, Microshaft must love you guys...

I do a lot of Video editing, converting, burning, *ahem* copying of
media, etc., and XP just fell apart on me.....Maybe when the software
industry finally catches up to XP things will function better. Hell, it
took what? Couple of years for most software now to catch up with 2K.

I'll probably wait until XP comes out with SP4 before I touch it again.
I've been testing the Windows Longhorn Beta.....and ooooh boy, do they
have a long way to go....So far, 2 thumbs down....3 if I had them.

Later!
