I have a column with a candidate number 0006. I want to mail merge fo
labels and want the number to display as 0006. When I try this th
number defaults to 6 and not 0006. Is there a way of fixing this?

Try formatting the cells as text. That will keep the preceeding zeros

Hope this helps

I tried both of these. Neither of them work when the data is merged. Any
other ideas?

Hi
the Text formating did not help?, o.k. try the following:
- use a helper column (lets say column B, col. A stores your number)
- enter the following formula in B1:
=TEXT(A1,"0000")
- copy this down for all rows

Now use this helper column in your mail merge

Thanks Frank. This works!
I don't know why it works but it solved the problem.

Thanks again.
