Formats and Partitions

Can any one advise me on the following.

My Hard Disk has two partitions on it and I want to remove one of them so that I have easy access to the complete Hard Disk. How can I do this?

then I wish to start again and format the complete disk. How do I do this and to what format (FAT32) or something else?

I used to be able to do this in the old days with DOS but have not tried it since Windows came along.

Boot from CDROM with your XP CD in the drive ... delete all partitions ... install using NTFS

Done!
