Hey. I've been trying to convince XP that it needs to reinstall but it
doesn't seem to agree with me. For some reason the windows XP cd (System
recovery CD that came with the PC) doesn't have a "back to factory settings"
option and only offers to make a new install ontop of the one I already got
or repair the install I already have. Trying to format the entire drive
doesn't help either since it asks me to close windows first...

Sorry if this sounds stupid but I am really having trouble with this and I
would highly appreciate an answer soon.

Thanks in advance.

Try looking at your PC manual for the correct steps to reinstall Windows XP
to the original condition it was in when it left the factory.

And you cannot format a drive you are currently 'in'.

You must boot with the XP CD and follow the onscreen instructions...

Well that is kinda my problem, the manual refers to the recovery CD which as
stated, is basicly useless. And booting from that same CD still doesn't give
me a reinstall option.

boot your pc and go into setup (bios)and set you cd rom drive to be the
first boot device. exit out of bios and xp will start normally put the xp
cd in the you cd rom drive and cancel it's window when it comes up now
shutdown and reboot it should reboot to the xp cd that you left in you cd
rom before you shutdown. Now it will walk you through the install thus
reformating you hard drive a setting you up with a fresh install
