Formating text in mail merged document

When I mail merge contacts through Word, the resulting e-
mail is generated using Times New Roman 9pt. I can't find
where to change this, nor does adjusting the font size in
the merge document have any effect.
 
Outlook 2000 Ver 9.0 Build 2711
Access 2000 Ver 9.0 Build 2719

All mail merges default to plain text in that version.
