You need to check with the maker of your smartmedia card. Some cards are
formatted with FAT12 or some special file system. they might have a special
application that you need to use in order not the brake the card.

"...not the brake the card"?? Have you considered posting
in English?

If you format it wrong it will become TRASH, you will not be able to
refotmat with the right file system. Thank you for knowing what your
talking about before posting. again it depends on the card.

Some Olympia cameras expect FAT12 cards and cards should be formatted in
the camera. Most compact media cards are formatted FAT16 out of the
box; XP will format cards less than or equal to 32MB as FAT16 if that is
the existing format on the card. XP will automatically format any card
greater than 32MB as FAT32, making it unusable in the original device if
it expects FAT16 format. Some newer devices which can use media
greater than 2GB in size can accomodate FAT32 for any size card.

You should always consult the manual or the vendor's web site for a
specific device on the issue of formatting compact media in the computer
for use in that device.
