Formating Phone Numbers for Import to Outlook

I had a contact file sent to me in excel but when I import it to Outlook the
numbers have 3 decimal spaces and don't resemble phone numbers at all. What
is going on that I need to know about?

A) That some people use periods as separators in phone numbers
B) Use can use Edit|Find to replace the periods by dashes
 
This is an example of what I'm experiencing - The Contact in excel will look
like this: Bill Chevalier (318) 659-4321 - But when I import it to Outlook
it looks like this: Bill Chevalier -1108372976.000

Hmm, that's interesting. I tried to duplicate your problem, but I cannot
turn (318) 659-4321 into -1108372976.000. The latter number looks like
it might be a phone number with three zeros added. Maybe it was imported
into the wrong field. Also, were the two numbers you gave results you
actually achieved or just an example of what might happen?
 
The real phone number is (318) 659-4320 instead of 21. Other than that - the
numbers are actual results. I don't know where the dash is coming from, the
numbers or the 3 decimal points - none of those things are in the actual text
of the cell that I can see. There is nothing hidden that I can tell - when I
right click and select unhide, nothing new or hidden is revealed - otherwise
there is no option to unhide. ?????????????
