Formating page numbers in TOC

I've searched and searched but am not sure how to change the appearance of the page numbers themselves in a document. In my footer, the style of my page number is - 1 -, but in my TOC I want just 1, 2, 3, etc. and yet it is giving me - 1 -. How do I unlink the TOC and footer style?
