I import a .txt file into excel and need to format numbers to currency.
I tried to format cells with no luck, excel adds .00 to current numbers
I need a way to take 12345 and format to $123.45. The only way is t
go to tools, options, edit and click on fixed decimal places. Thi
still won't change to the format I need, I have to click each cell an
enter then the format will take place, but there are thousands of cell
I have to click on.

Any help is greatly appreciate

Hi!

It looks like the numbers are imported as Text and you need to just update
the cell, try the following.

Enter a "1" (without quotation marks) in an empty cell
Copy this cell
Select the cells with values that you want to be updated
From the Edit menu, select Paste Special
Check "Values" and "Multiply", click OK
Now all selected cells are updated.

Very good, I would never guessed. I looked for days for a solution.
Thank you so much, worked great.

The next time you have to do this, you can do it all in one shot, using the
same procedure.

However, *format* that "empty" cell exactly as you would like your data to
display.
For your example, format as currancy, two decimals, with dollar signs.
Then, enter 100 in the formatted cell.
You'll see $100.00 displayed.

Now, when you copy and go to "PasteSpecial", click on the *divide* instead,
and you'll get all your cells formatted and properly configured, with the
decimals in the right place.
