Formating a cell "1-1" not "1-Jan"

I'd like to input 1-1 or 1-2 or 0-2 etc. but Excel
converts my input to a date 1-Jan or sometimes to a large
number 37622. I've tried using a custom format h-m but
the results are unpredictable (somewhat) and I can't use
the '1-0 cause I'm pulling it from another cell.
Any ideas?

IT'S FOOTBALL SEASON man! I need to keep track of the
standings

Thank you
JJ

JJ, if you don't need to do any calculations with the data format the cells
as text

Always backup your data before trying something new
Using Excel 2000 & 97

Not knowing what is in other cell (source) makes it difficult to answer. But
have you tried =A1&"-"&A2
Bernard
PS with scores like 1-1 this looks like soccer.

If you format the cell as text it will accept 1-0 as entry.

Where is the data being pulled from?
