I am having problems formatting a drive with W/ME update from W/98 on. I
would like to reformat and install W/98 SE, everything goes well ,booting up
from the floppy etc until I ask it to format the c drive and it says windows
no longer supports, format/s command, what am I doing wrong?

"what am I doing wrong?" This is a Windows XP group.

But if you have a W98 startup disk, it should have format
and fdisk commands.

Use format C: /q

If you are trying to make a boot floppy, save yourself some
time and download one from the web.

As Jim points out, you are not on a Windows 9x board but to answer your
question, Format C with the /s switch is not a supported command in Windows
ME and above. At the prompt, simply type format C: and press enter.

You no longer need to worry about the format/s option.
The /s option just installs the command.com so that the
drive would immediately boot and give you a "c" prompt.
If you are immediately going to reinstall windows 98 or
windows me, just boot from your floppy and type "format
c:" (without the "). It will then slick your drive for
you. Once it's done formatting, switch to cd drive "cd
d:" or whatever the drive letter is and then run setup.
Hope this helps. Happy Holidays to you.
