My son has purchased a laptop and has given me his PC.

It has a 60g hard disk mostly full of music and MP3 players and various juke
boxes.

It has windows xp pro

I would like format the disc to get rid of all his add ons etc.

I have the original XP disc and installation number, is a reformat the same
way as that of Win 98 ?

Also can I use the same activation number or do I contact Microsoft for a
new one

thank you

.
What I did to format my drive is i booted up in dos with
an old dos boot disc then after it was done loading i
typed in format C: (where C: is your disc drive u
want to format) or i think if u go into the windows
setup disc u can format it from there and install the new
XP pro at the same time Also no you dont
have to get a new Product key form Microsoft as long as
no one elas has the same key its ok.
