Please help. I can no longer access the Format
Text Box by either double clicking a text box or
by right clicking the text box and scolling down
to the bottom of the list and selecting "Format
Text Box" or "Format Autoshape". Neither method
works. Sometimes right clicking brings up "Format
Text Box" and sometimes it brings up "Format Autoshape"
for certain text boxes. I am not sure what dictates
this.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Can you go to Format > Text Box? If the text is typed into a drawing
object such as a rectangle, then it's an autoshape, not a text box. If it's
text typed in a Placeholder, then you'll see Placeholder on the Format menu.
Does that help?

Neither right clicking and selecting Format Text Box
nor having the box highlighted and selecting format
at the top nor double clicking the text box works.

I am completely unable to access the Text Box Pop Up
Menus.

I have checked Tools/Options and my settings are the
same as my coworkers whose Powerpoint is functioning
properly.

I have also tried exiting the session and relaunching
Powerpoint and I still cannot access the Text Box.

I am using PowerPoint 97.
Thanks for your help.

Try this. Create just a one slide test presentation. Put a text box on it
and then right click the text box. Does the Format Text Box option appear?

What service pack do you have installed? Go to Help > About and it will say
something like SR-2 at the top.

I have 97 SR-2.

Making a test text does not work either.
I literally cannot get the Format Text Box anymore.
It will not function for new text boxes or even
older presentations that have text boxes.

Any other advice?
Thanks again.

Unless someone else jumps in with an idea, I think I would first go to My
Computer and do search for a file name of *.PCB on the C: drive. It will
probably be named something like "PPT.PCB". Rename it, giving it an
extension of .OLD. Then open PowerPoint 97 and see whether the problem
still exists. If it does, I think at this point I would uninstall and
reinstall PowerPoint.

The following is from an old post -- maybe this will resolve the
problem.

This resolved another issue with slide finder dialog (insert/slides from
file) not showing up for some users. I've suggested it for a couple of other
"missing dialog" posts, but I don't think any of those posters has gotten
back to tell us if it worked or not. So I've no idea if it will help here or
not, but it sure won't hurt to try. Be sure to back up the registry before
trying this!

Click Start, Run, Regedt32, OK
Allow full control to users of the following keys:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.0
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.0
Security - Permissions - check "Allow inheritable permissions" - Allow
full control to all users.

Thanks, Echo.
