I'm running out of space on my hdd and I wanted
to format it, but I don't know how! I've tried
"format c:" in dos prompt and I get an error msg.
I've tried reinstalling xp all over again,
but it won't let me delete the partition. Now I have
2 xp os's running on 1 partition.I just want
to know how I can erase everything and install xp
on my system.

Nathan;
Clean Installation.
Disconnect all peripherals (camera, printer, scanner, etc)
Go to BIOS and set CDROM as boot device before hard drive.
Insert Windows XP CD and reboot.
At "Press any key to boot to CDROM" quickly press a key and follow the
prompts for a Clean installation:
http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sg_clean.asp
Delete all partitions in step 5 if you desire to erase all data on the
hard drive.
Partitioning and formatting will be done automatically.
All data will be destroyed, back-up important data first.

After you are finished, you will need to load the appropriate drivers.

If your computer was shipped with Windows XP, these procedures may or
may not apply.
Check your manual or contact the computer manufacturer for more
details.

.
Go to your software store and buy Disc Sanitizer Pro or
some other program that wipes your hard drive. Then try
what you've done. Be sure to enter bios after you've
wiped and select CD-rom as your first boot option. Boot
with your windows disc in. Have any windows startup disc
handy. Use it when it tells you, remove all discs from
your system and restart. Go figure. Good luck.
