Just formatted and begun to install windows 2003 on an old windows 2000 PDC
box. After all of the procedures I undertook to move any valuable data and
any other tasks that had to be completed I forgot to run dcpromo to remove
it as a PDC. This is not our only PDC but how do I remove it from the AD
now:? I will install 2003 srvr as a new PDC and as the same name but I
guess this will have a new SID?

You hae to follow this procedure (URL below) to cleanup data in AD
before You will proceed with new DC promotion:

http://www.jsiinc.com/SUBJ/tip4900/rh4984.htm

If this removed DC was one of the FSMO servers You will have to seize
this role to the new server
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;255504

You might want to look at the official Microsoft KB for this too

How to remove data in Active Directory after an unsuccessful domain
controller demotion
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=216498&product=nts40

You would need to follow the same steps of using ntdsutil to clear out
the metadata and then using adsiedit to completely get rid of the old
server from AD.

I generally look at the Microsoft site first and then turn around to
other well reputed sites like jsinc which is a pretty neat site
itself. But Microsoft's site comes first in the search list
