Format Hard drive?

I have just upgraded to Vista and windows is now telling me that the hard
drive i use to store my music and photos needs formating before it can be
used. Have I just spent £85 to lose all my music and memories....lets hope
the new taskbar makes up for it huh? Any ideas? Cheers.
 
Not without some specifics on your system, the version of Vista (x86 or
x64), and especially that hard drive and how it is connected.
 
Are you trying to copy/access to an internal HD or an external USB HD?
