Formatting will not only eradicate errors, it will eradicate ALL data on your drive. Formatting is usually only don
when a clean install is desired, and is done when booting from the install disk. Without knowing what errors you wish to
correct, it is hard for anyone to advise you on a course of action, other than using System Restore or the Repair utility
available when booting from the install disk

Trying to format disk to eradicate several errors,however XP suggests that a program is accessing disk and will not allow formatting of disk.Have tried shutting down system and only using "My Computer" but same message appears.
