Hi

I want to create a bootable flopy under Windows XP, as
described in this article:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=305595

But if I format a floppy under Windows XP, the bootsectot
on the floppy displays only
"Remove disks or other media.
Press any key to restart"
and does not try to load NTLDR !

This does not happe, with Windows 2000 or Windows NT.

How can I format a floppy under Windows XP that can load
NTLDR ?

TIA

Vivi

Yes I did.

In fact, I know quite a lot about these things, and my
diagnosis is that with XP, when one format a floppy or a HD
partition manually, the boot sector is not able to load
NTLDR and other system stuff but only to display the
message

"Remove disks or other media.

Press any key to restart"

I guess this was intended by MS to be clearer to user when
they reboot their PC with a floppy disk in the floppy
drive. But when it comes to HD partition formatting, it is
annoying, the boot sector also displays this message !

Yet, I found a way to format HD partitions with the correct
boot sector under XP: Use the FORMAT command in system
recovery console and then launch FIXBOOT. You cannot format
the HD partition under XP and launch FIXBOOT afterwards
with SRC, the boot sector seems incorrect then (can't load
NTLDR message) !

As I told before, these behaviors are only for XP.

If you use Win2000 or NT to format a floppy or HD
partition, the correct bootsector is stored on the floppy
disk or HD and everything goes right.

MS should provide a convenient way to format HD partitions
or floppies under XP with a bootsector that can actually
launch the system.

I suggest a /boot option in Format.com command under XP

If anyone knows a convenient way to format HD partitions or
floppies, under XP, with a bootsector that can load and run
NTLDR, please LMK
