Can someone tell me how to format a CD-RW? The
instructions in the XP Help and Support Center sound
simple enough, but the instructions given don't match my
experience. They say to click on FORMAT in the File Menu
under My Computer, but that is not an option given me as
a follow the steps. Any help would be appreciated.

HOW TO: Erase/Format Files From a CD-RW Disc in Windows XP

You are misrepresenting the KB article in the link; it says
*nothing* about how to *format* a CD in XP, because it's
not possible to format a CD in XP without 3rd-party
intervention. Formatting and erasing are two different
operations. Although erasing can be accomplished by
formatting, the reverse is NOT true. I don't know what the
OP was looking at, but there is nothing in XP Help and
Support to indicate that it's possible (or necessary) to
format a CD using XP's native capability, and for you to
suggest otherwise will only make other people as confused
as you are.

You think what you want.

Formatting and erasing are TWO DIFFERENT OPERATIONS, you
moron. You can't even spell "erasing," for god's sake.
Are you saying that if you delete (erase) all of the files
on a floppy, for example, that the erase operation is also
formatting the disk? Do you even understand what it means
to format a storage medium? Once again: unless packet
writing software is being used, CDs CANNOT be formatted.

Chris while I don't agree with Wislu's tone I agree in principle with what
he is saying about not adding to the confusion that people have about XP's
drag and drop writing method and that used by packet writing software. The
term "format a CD-R/W" generally relates to packet writing and not mastering
software. XP uses the IS09660/Joilet format when burning and most people do
not understand that "erasing a CD" using mastering software is a form or
formatting but it is much different than that used by packet writing
software.

Listen you dick, no one had to offer to help your sorry ass in the first
place. If you don't like the answers you're getting, go elsewhere. Several
of us have tried giving you suggestions which might be more beneficial to
you. Instead, you lashed out at those who tried helping you. Now I have a
new suggestion for you. Go **** yourself!
