I installed a new HD and am preparing my old one for sale. I erased,
reformatted, but the folder "System Volume Information" still exists. Though
there is nothing in it, why is it still there? I have Restore disabled for
this drive. Have tried to delete it, in Safe Mode and no luck. Is this
something to worry about? This is a single partition on a Maxtor 6Y060L0.

If you reformatted it was created then. It's part of system restore and is
where it stores restore points and info.

Don't worry about it.

I didn't give all the information. Formatted my WS 20gig on my wife's XP Home
and it is totally clean. Did the Maxtor on my XP Pro and the folder was
created.

Thanks for the reply.

I just leave it and don't worry about it. I assume the difference is Home
vs Pro.

If you wish to ensure that:

a) You sell your old disk without any recoverable data on it, and
b) The buyer will not have problems, regardless of his hardware or
operating system

Then you should use KillDisk as Carey suggested.

Carey -
This is an awesome little program. Easy to install, use, and gives peace of
mind when you sell a used drive.

Thanks for the GRAT tip!!
