Format and Re-install Win-XP

Just a couple of days ago I saw the file you need to save to restore the
registration of Win-XP (to avoid having to re register a repeat
installation). Now I can't find it. Can someone tell me the name of this
file. A friend had his computer devastated by a virus and wants to
delete everything and re-install. Thanks in advance.
