I recently purchased a supply of 650m CD. When I place
one in either of two CD drives, it is not recognized.
Someone said I need to Format the CD's to run on my
computer (Pentium III). I can't find "format" on WIN XP
(HOME) HELP. I have two CD drives (D and E) - 40X

Three ingredients needed to burn CDs:
1) The drives must be capable of burning disks
2) CDR or CDRW disks
3) Software to do the burning.

XP's built in CD burning feature using "mastering" sessions only. Gather up
600MB of files or so and write them all at once to the CDR or CDRW. The
disks do not have to be formatted for XP's burning. That is a feature found
in programs that use "packet writing" which allows you to use a CDRW in a
manner similar to a floppy disk (on-the-fly writing).

If your drives are capable of burning CDs, does XP recognize them as such?
If not, are the Windows Updates that add compatibility for many burners
installed on your setup (update for this is included in SP1)?

Have the drives burned CDs before in Windows XP? If yes, is the brand of
CDRs you've just purchased different than the last brand that you used
successfully? Some drives are quite sensitive to the quality of the
recording media. May need to switch back to that other brand or find one
that is more similar to the brand that worked for you.
