I have a Formac Studio DV that allows for transfer of video form RCA jacks,
this was working really well until it messed up.

Well I thought it was the Studio DV but had it tested and no, so I set up a
new profile, this worked for a while and then it stopped working. What was
wrong was the captured video in WMM, it chopped off or only showed something
like 1/3 of the total video recorded.

A work around is to go to the temp folder, the video here is the full length
thing, copy (can't cut) this and then close WMM, open it again and then
insert the copied full length video and its like nothing went wrong.

Having said this I have the one before SP2, but there's no way Im going to
that, I know my system would melt down with all the conflicts.

One option you have is when the Save Movie Wizard opens you can select "The
Web" the next screen gives you upload speed options and changes the size
(and quality) of the movie accordingly.
Your movie will then take up less space and hence upload faster but it will
also lose video quality.

I go for 'High Quality Video PAL' this is vbr and give decent quality. I
would go for the max but until Blue Ray comes out I am limited to about
20mins at top quality.

Still as I said it worked fine before, and this was at 'High Quality Video
PAL' for months then I started using it with a cam corder, old ones, so same
RCA connections but saving at 20min intervals at top quality and then when I
went back to the video recorder at vbr the inconcistency started.

I have found a work around, and to boot I have noticed that the first pass
is only a few 100MB more than if it is compressed, and at vbr it takes the
same time to compress as it does to record, so that can be 3-4hrs.

Strangely enough compression at top quality is half if not less the time it
initially takes to record.
