I am using form handler in FP 2003 and have had it redirect to a confirmation
page in the past. But for some reason, this time it keeps giving me a Page
not found error.

What on earth could I be doing worng? In the address bar instead of the
page it's supposed to be on (for the confirmation) it says cgi/formail...

Please help...

Are you using "formmail.cgi" or the FP form handler? (your post is unclear)

You state:

The above doesn't tell me absolutely, that you're using the FP 2003 form
handler specifically; it says you're using *a* form handler (my guess, a
third party script hence your reference to "cgi/formmail".

If you're using the Frontpage form handler (requires the server extensions)
then you go and right-click inside the form, choose "Form Properties", and
place the confirmation page file name in the appropriate field (choose the
'browse' button to find the file you want).

Make sure the form properties point to the "Email Address" option, not the
"Send to Other (cgi, asp)", unless you're using another script and not the
FP form handler.

If you're using a cgi script - there is one floating around called
"Formmail.cgi" (possibly the one from Matt's Script Archive) then check the
documentation that came with it as it has nothing to do with Frontpage.

Usually in cgi scripts the options such as custom confirm pages is set in
the script itself.

Otherwise please post back - are you using the Frontpage form handler or a
third party script.?

Also, if you're using the third-party script - go back over the
instructions, make sure all the paths & URLs are correct, make sure you
publish all files to the correct folders on the server.

OK....
You just need to go back over the instructions and double check all your
settings in the script file.

Open formmail.cgi in notepad, make any changes, save and re-upload the
script and the form page and the confirmation page.

Chmod the script file to 755 or whatever the instructions recommend,
test-send a message....and see if the confirm page comes up; or first, just
type the Url to the confirm page manually, in the browser address field, and
see if you can access it.

This is not a FP issue. If you want to use formmail.cgi to process the form, you will have get the
formmail.cgi script and upload it to your site. FP doesn't use or provide it.

If this is the same web host, then nothing should have changed when you upgraded to FP2003. If you
have uploaded the .cgi file via FP, and the site is hosted under Unix/Linux, you need to upload it
again using FTP application and then run a CHMOD to set the required permissions, as FP will not do
this, nor will it give you the ability to set the CHMOD permissions on files.

You must think I am awfully stupid by now but I promise I'm not awfully
stupid (just a little sometimes). I cannot for the life of me find a cgi
file but this is a different host. What do I need to do - contact my host?
Is there a way in FP to get a form published and get the results via email?
Or, if I send them to a file - how do I get the results from the internet?
Thanks for putting up with my quesitons.

sorry - I am using formmail.cgi

:

Are you using "formmail.cgi" or the FP form handler? (your post is
unclear)

You state:

I am using form handler in FP 2003 and have had it redirect to a
confirmation
page in the past. But for some reason, this time it keeps giving me a
Page
not found error.

[unquote]

The above doesn't tell me absolutely, that you're using the FP 2003 form
handler specifically; it says you're using *a* form handler (my guess, a
third party script hence your reference to "cgi/formmail".

If you're using the Frontpage form handler (requires the server
extensions)
then you go and right-click inside the form, choose "Form Properties",
and
place the confirmation page file name in the appropriate field (choose
the
'browse' button to find the file you want).

Make sure the form properties point to the "Email Address" option, not
the
"Send to Other (cgi, asp)", unless you're using another script and not
the
FP form handler.

If you're using a cgi script - there is one floating around called
"Formmail.cgi" (possibly the one from Matt's Script Archive) then check
the
documentation that came with it as it has nothing to do with Frontpage.

Usually in cgi scripts the options such as custom confirm pages is set in
the script itself.

Otherwise please post back - are you using the Frontpage form handler or
a
third party script.?

Also, if you're using the third-party script - go back over the
instructions, make sure all the paths & URLs are correct, make sure you
publish all files to the correct folders on the server.

I am using form handler in FP 2003 and have had it redirect to a
confirmation
page in the past. But for some reason, this time it keeps giving me a
Page
not found error.

What on earth could I be doing worng? In the address bar instead of
the
page it's supposed to be on (for the confirmation) it says
cgi/formail...

Please help...

You would either use the FP form handler, see Tom Pepper's reply or you check with your web host to
see what email component they support and then use that based on the instructions provided with the
component.

If this is the same web host, then nothing should have changed when you upgraded to FP2003. If
you
have uploaded the .cgi file via FP, and the site is hosted under Unix/Linux, you need to upload
it
again using FTP application and then run a CHMOD to set the required permissions, as FP will not
do
this, nor will it give you the ability to set the CHMOD permissions on files.

I think I know what the problem is. I don't have a formmail.cgi script. I
have just upgraded from office xp. Here are my settings.

Method = POST
Action = /cgi/formmail
Sent to other is selectred (Custom ASAPI, NSAPI, CGI or ASP script
Form Name = watertest
