Form fields do not allow data entry... help!?

All,

On two different Windows 2000 PCs (after installing SP4
and remaining Critical/Security Updates, (re)installing
IE6+SP1 and the latest Cumulative Patch, and turning off
many unneeded services), input fields on forms stop
accepting input. Other PCs that we've made the exact same
changes to have not had this problem.

Anyone have any suggestions on where to look or what to
try next? How can I possibly un-install IE in order to re-
install it? Help?

Please help? I can find nothing on this elsewhere and don't have the
budget to call MS directly...

turning off many unneeded services

that might be a clue...

Hint: Protected Storage retains AutoComplete data.

Protected Storage is not one of the services we turn off, and we've
been turning off the "many unneeded services" for the last year and a
half... the IE6 oddness only started happening last week after SP4 &
MSBlast.
