Form corruption?

I don't understand what' happening - I have been working no a database for
some months now, and suddenly this morning something is wrong. I am adding
text boxes to my form, whether bound or unbound, and they are appearing
without a label and they are appearing with a yellow background. I didn't
change any settings, to my knowledge and would not know how to change it so
all the text boxes arrived in a different colour from the default white. Why
have the labels disappeared also? Naturally all the text boxes and labels
created previously are in tact. Any ideas?

Further to this message, I'm tearing my hair out - I don't understand why
the form changed. I have other forms in my database, but the problem occurs
on only one. I made a backup copy and then went through the process of
stripping everything off the form and leaving it bear then trying to add a
new text box. Still comes in yellow and without a label. I clicked on Format
for the Form and AutoFormat and set it to Standard. Sure enough, the text
boxes reverted to being white, but STILL no labels. What went wrong?

Laura:
This info is from the help files:

Set defaults for labels attached to new controls
You can use this procedure to change the default control style for the
current form or report. This procedure does not apply to data access pages.
Open a form or a report in Design view.
Click the tool in the toolbox that you want to set defaults for. For
example, if you want to specify whether labels are automatically attached to
text boxes, click the Text Box tool .
Click Properties on the Form Design or Report Design toolbar to display the
property sheet for the tool.
Microsoft Access changes the title bar of the property sheet to indicate
that you're setting default properties for that type of control.
Do one or more of the following:
Specify whether new controls automatically have labels
In the AutoLabel property box, click Yes or No.
