Help anybody, as subject. I am running XP professional.
I forgot my logon password so had to change it in safe mode via
administrator, now I can't access my encrypted files. System restore has no
restore points prior to this so can't use that. I have been trying various
passwords in the hope I come across the right one, but no joy yet.

If anybody can help it would be very much appreciated as I have a lot of
encrypted files that I just can't afford to loose.

You must change your password back to the password you forgot to access
those encrypted files. You should have seen a warning message as to the
consequences of resetting a user's password to warn you of this. A Recovery
Agent could also decrypt those files if you configured one before this all
happened. If you happen to be a member of an Active Directory domain you
should contact a domain administrator to see if they can help. The utility
efsinfo can show if an EFS file has a Recovery Agent. Too bad you reset your
password because you probably could have recovered it with a password hash
cracking program like the free one called Cain from Oxid.it . --- Steve
