Hi,

I would like know, is it possible to break a forest-tree
relationship. i.e. Remove a present tree domain from the
forest and create a new forest on its own. It is like a
subsidary company breaking off on its own and we have to
break off that relationship while keeping all the user
account.

If possible, please advice how it can be done and if not
possible, how can we break that relationship then?

Thanks!

Dan

You cannot take a domain out of one forest in place it in another, if that
is what you're asking.

Dan,

you will have in your case to create a new forset for the
new breaking company, in the new forest create a new
domain, and there are few tools that will allow you to
migret the information from the old domain to the new
domain. but it is going to be a hard job because it is a
diffrent forest.

you can create a new domain in the new forest, by using a
new server as the dc while the old dc is still on line,
then when both dc's are online, migret the information
from one dc to the other, and take the old dc offline.

Hi Dan,

You are correct here. You will need to setup a new domain in a new forest,
and then use something like the ADMT to move the users to the new
domain/forest. You may also be able to script this with ClonePrincipal ... I
dont' know abotu that, though.
