Hi

I just installed MS AntiSpyware Beta 1 and noticed that if
I use the functionality provided to edit my browser
default home page and search page to one of a google
address, my setting it overwritten with the microsoft
equivalents! What is the point of offering this
functionality if Microsoft's versions are to overwrite
whatever page's I enter here?

I appreciate that this is Beta 1, but it's not exactly a
mammoth piece of coding to get something as trivial as
that working properly!

The program DID NOT force anything on your system! You
hijacked your own IE settings. You clicked the 'Block'
button when asked if you wanted to allow the IE settings
to be changed from the defaults set in MSAS, which then
uses the default values for IE.

The reason for this behavior is simple, VERY simple.
There's no way for the program to know for certain that
the settings you have currently in IE are correct or if
they have been hijacked in the past by some piece of
spyware. It would be completely asinine for MS to not
use default settings that are known to be free of
spyware. Because of this they ship the app with the
default web settings for IE.

You MUST go to Tools > Advanced Tools > Browser Hijack
Settings Restore and change the default settings there to
the ones you want to use.
